The antivirus protects data that’s on your Mac, but when you send that data out across the internet the antivirus loses its mojo. Kaspersky holds one perfect score, while Bitdefender has one perfect score and one recent almost-perfect rating. Note, though, that just last month, before the newest report, Bitdefender had a 17.5-point score from AV-Test, enough to earn it the designation Top Product. Bitdefender didn’t appear in the latest report from this lab. Kaspersky aced all three, for a perfect 18 points. An antivirus can earn up to six points in each category. Products succeed in that third category by avoiding false positives, valid files or URLs reported as malicious. Bitdefender earned perfect scores across the board, detecting 100% of Mac malware, Mac PUAs (Potentially Unwanted Applications), and Windows malware. The latest report from AV-Comparatives includes Bitdefender, but Kaspersky wasn’t tested. A good score from one of these labs goes a long way toward proving a product’s efficacy.
